What Happened
Unidentified armed men opened fire on Sri Lanka Police on security duty Sunday night at Kulumattu junction in Vavuniya killing one policeman and injuring two. Three civilians were injured when the police returned fire. One of the injured policemen and one of the injured civilians succumbed to injuries Monday, sources in Vavuniya said. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, unidentified armed men shot dead a civilian Sunday night in Chettikulam area in Vavuniya, said Vavuniya police. The Police transferred the body to Vavuniya hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.
