About This Project
Understanding our mission to document, preserve, and advocate for justice.
Our Mission
This website serves as a comprehensive documentation project dedicated to preserving the memory of victims and recording the systematic violence perpetrated against the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. Our mission is threefold:
- Document: Create an accurate historical record of massacres, human rights violations, and atrocities committed against Tamils.
- Remember: Honor the memory of victims and ensure their stories are preserved for future generations.
- Advocate: Support calls for accountability, justice, and an end to impunity for perpetrators of these crimes.
Why This Matters
Despite overwhelming evidence documented by the United Nations, human rights organizations, and journalists, there has been no accountability for the war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed against the Tamil people. The Sri Lankan government continues to deny these events and obstruct international investigations.
By maintaining this documentation, we contribute to the historical record and support ongoing efforts to achieve justice. The evidence preserved here may one day be used in accountability proceedings.
Our Sources
The information on this website is drawn from credible sources including:
- United Nations reports and investigations
- Human Rights Watch documentation
- Amnesty International reports
- University Teachers for Human Rights (Jaffna)
- International Crisis Group
- Academic research and publications
- Survivor testimonies
- Journalistic investigations
Accuracy and Updates
We strive for accuracy in all our documentation. Where figures are disputed or uncertain, we indicate this clearly. Casualty figures often represent estimates, as precise counts were frequently impossible to obtain during wartime conditions or due to government obstruction.
This website is regularly updated as new information becomes available or additional massacres are documented.
Supporting Justice
We support the calls for:
- An international accountability mechanism for Sri Lanka
- Recognition of the Tamil genocide
- Justice for victims and survivors
- An end to ongoing human rights violations
- Self-determination for the Tamil people
