What Happened

On 18 November 2006 at approximately 9:45 AM, Sri Lankan Army troops from a nearby checkpost stormed the Thandikulam Agriculture Farm School in Vavuniya, 4km north on the A9 highway. This was in retaliation for a claymore blast that killed five SLA soldiers nearby. The soldiers shot at unarmed students while they were pleading they were innocent. Five students were killed - four Tamil students and one Muslim student from Batticaloa. Eight to nine other students were wounded. The students were engaged in practical coursework and were hostel residents at the agricultural school.
