What Happened

On 29-30 January 2006, ten TRO (Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation) employees were abducted by the government-backed TMVP paramilitary at Welikande while traveling from Batticaloa to Kilinochchi. Three women were released. Seven employees were tortured and executed. Premini Thanuskodi, the 25-year-old chief accountant, was gang-raped before being murdered. No one has been prosecuted despite Amnesty International and international pressure.
