What Happened
Worst anti-Tamil violence in Trincomalee since 1983. After grenade targeting Army killed 1 soldier and 5 Sinhalese civilians, three truckloads of Sinhalese thugs were brought to town BEFORE explosion. They robbed Tamil businesses, set them alight. Tamils attacked with guns and machetes. Police, Navy and Army stood by and watched. 10 Tamils killed, 50+ seriously injured, 100+ minor injuries.
