What Happened
Van carrying 13 fleeing civilians (due to military offensive on Mannar) attacked by claymore. Bodies decomposed for 2 days as attack was amidst military clashes. ICRC eventually brought bodies to Mannar hospital. Among victims: father, mother and 4-year-old son. Three weeks later (Sept 26), Father Nicholas Pillai Pakiaranjith killed in similar claymore while transporting food for refugees.
