What Happened

On 16 October 2006 between 5:15-5:45 PM, four Sri Lanka Air Force Kfir bombers attacked the civilian settlement in Kaiveli village, Puthukudiyiruppu, Mullaithivu district. At least 16 bombs were dropped, destroying 9 houses. Two children were killed - a 1-year-old baby girl and a 12-year-old girl. Fifteen civilians were injured: 11 women and girls, and 4 men. Six were treated at Puthukudiyiruppu hospital, 8 with serious injuries were admitted to Ponnambalam Hospital, and 1 critically wounded person was transported to Kilinochchi hospital. A 1-month-old baby miraculously survived the attack.
