What Happened
On 17-18 September 2006, ten Muslim workers who had been dispatched to repair the Rattal Kulam water reservoir were found killed near Pottuvil in Amparai district. The location was 9km south of Pottuvil, near a Special Task Force training camp and Yala National Park. One worker was wounded and transferred to Amparai hospital, and one was reported missing. The workers were caught in a dispute over water reservoir repairs between Sinhalese and Muslim farmers in the area. Bodies were transported to a mosque. Sri Lankan military blamed the LTTE, while the Tigers stated it was part of a sabotage campaign by Sri Lankan forces.
