What Happened

On 2 January 2007 at 9:35 AM, three Sri Lanka Air Force Kefir bombers attacked the civilian fishing hamlet of Padahuthurai near Iluppaikadavai in Mannar District. The settlement housed 231 displaced persons from Navanthurai, Jaffna (46 families in 35 huts) who had been living there since 1995. Fifteen civilians were killed including 7 children - the youngest just 1 year old. Over 35 were wounded, with 25 serious cases (mostly children and women) transferred to Kilinochchi hospital. The settlement was a Catholic fishing community with no military installations.
