What Happened

On 09.08.1992, Sri Lankan security forces attacked the village of Mailanthai. Approximately 50 Tamil civilians were killed in the massacre. The victims included farmers, labourers, and their families. The attack occurred during a period of intense military operations in the area. Survivors reported that soldiers entered the village and systematically killed civilians. Many bodies were found in homes and along village paths. The massacre devastated the small farming community and forced survivors to flee to other areas.
