What Happened
On 18.09.1993, Sri Lankan Air Force bombed the village of Maaththalan. 13 Tamil civilians were killed in the aerial attack. Among the victims were fishermen who had just returned from sea and students. The bombs fell on residential areas causing widespread destruction. The attack occurred without warning, giving civilians no time to seek shelter. Survivors described the terror of the bombing and the chaos that followed. Many homes were destroyed and families were torn apart.
