What Happened
Twenty-five passengers were killed and 73 wounded when a bomb exploded inside a fully packed bus around 6:45 p.m. Friday near Piliayandala bus-stand, 17 km southeast of Colombo, Police said. 73 persons were wounded. 63 injured, 47 males and 16 females, were warded at Kalubowlila hospital, 7 at Kesbewa hospital and 3 at Colombo hospital. A nurse and a Buddhist monk were among the victims. The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus was heading from Piliyandala to Kahapola. The bus has sustained heavy damage in the attack. Meanwhile, Colombo police Friday evening around 4.10 p.m. recovered a parcel bomb weighing about 5 kg placed near a police sentry at Aadduppaddiththe'ru, on receipt of information. A police party rushed to the site and cordoned off the area.
