What Happened

Five persons, inclduing Tamileelam Health Service personnel and civilians were killed in a Claymore mine attack by a Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army inside Vanni near Mangku'lam around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, according to initial reports by the Liberatin Tigers officials in Ki'linochchi. A worker from the Road Development Department, on road construction work along the A9 road, was wounded in the attack. Civil Health Service vehicles have been targeted by the Deep Penetration Units that infiltrate into LTTE controlled Vanni, in violation of rules of war, LTTE officials added. The attack took place 6 km north of Mangku'lam at Kizhavanku'lam. Tamileelam Health Service (TEHS), a civil service of the LTTE run civil administration in Vanni.
