What Happened

On 4th August 2006, 17 local aid workers of Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger), a French humanitarian organization, were found shot dead in their office in Muttur, Trincomalee district.

The workers were all Tamils who had been providing humanitarian assistance to civilians affected by the conflict. Evidence pointed to Sri Lankan security forces, but a government commission exonerated the military despite international criticism.
